WoW Classic causes biggest Subscriber increase ever

World of Warcraft Classic has caused the biggest subscriber increase ever quarter on quarter for Blizzard. This was announced during the Activision Blizzard Third Quarter 2019 Financial Results conference call. You can check out the entire powerpoint presentation here, and check out the Financial Model for Q3 here.

Users on Reddit discuss the news, saying that the release of Warlords of Draenor was the previous record holder for biggest increase quarter on quarter. That increase was about three million, so the Classic launch added at least 3 million subscribers to the already subscribed player base. It is important to note that quarter on quarter increase doesn’t mean highest amount of subscribers ever, it just means the highest increase ever.

All in all, Q3 was very successful for the company. Bobby Kotick, Chief Executive Officer of Activision Blizzard said the following:

“Our third quarter results exceeded our prior outlook for both revenue and earnings per share. Recent launches have enabled significant growth in the size of our audiences for our Call of Duty and World of Warcraft franchises. As we introduce mobile and free-to-play games based on our franchises we believe we can increase audience size, engagement and monetization across our wholly owned franchises. With a strong content pipeline and momentum in mobile, esports and advertising, we are confident we will remain a leader in connecting and engaging the world through epic entertainment.”
